    Chankanaab

    One of Cozumel attractions not to be missed is Chankanaab, the Maya word for “little sea,” referring to a beautiful land-locked pool connecting the sea through an underwater tunnel. This outdoor park offers a dolphin and sea lion shows, manatee exhibition, excellent diving, snorkeling tours, dolphin encounters, a relaxing beach, zip lining, a tequila factory, gardens and nature trails. Open Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is 383 pesos ($21 USD) for adults and 255 pesos ($14 USD) ages 3 to 11.

    San Gervasio

    The island’s capital and ceremonial center, San Gervasio is dedicated to the fertility goddess Ixchel. The buildings and temples were occupied from 300–1500 AD. Typical architectural features include limestone plazas and arches atop stepped platforms, as well as stelae and bas-reliefs. Visit the temple “Las Manitas,” with red handprints all over its altar. Admission is 91 pesos ($5 USD) to enter, plus an additional 82 pesos ($4.50 USD). Open every day from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

    El Museo de la Isla de Cozumel

    There’s no better place to learn about Cozumel, Mexico, history than The Museo de la Isla de Cozumel (Island Museum). An excellent museum featuring exhibits about the island's ecosystems and displays about local development and conservation issues. See old Mayan and Spanish colonial artifacts on the second floor. The museum also showcases more recent history of Cozumel, with exhibits on the area's 20th-century cultural and economic development. Guided tours are available. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily and admission is about 73 pesos ($4 USD) per adult and is free for children 8 years and younger.
