Xcaret
Pronounced “Sh-car-ret,” this eco-archaeological park is filled with Mexican and Mayan flavor, color, music and culture. Inside the park is a dolphin aquarium, turtle sanctuary, butterfly pavilion, aquarium and aviary, and views of flamingos, manatees, spider monkeys and jaguars. Xcaret also offers a variety of Playa del Carmen excursions, like dolphin interactions, stingray encounters, shark swims, scuba tours and speedboat rides. Plus, enjoy a beach for swimming, a lazy river, diving and snorkeling, and a small Mayan ruin to climb.

Rio Secreto
As cave tours go, this eco-park stands above the rest. Lauded as one of the best-kept secrets on the Yucatan Peninsula, Rio Secreto (Secret River) is a natural park consisting of an underground river and a collection of caves. Bright turquoise water contrasts with the caramel- and mocha-colored rock formations within the caves, including stalactites and stalagmites. Swim the river, climb through caves and marvel at the natural beauty, plus learn Mayan beliefs about the “underworld.”

La Quinta Avenida
The main street of Playa del Carmen, La Quinta Avenida, runs parallel to the shore and serves as a pedestrian walkway. It’s lined with hotels, high-class restaurants, condominiums, souvenir shops and bars.

A natural eco-adventure park, Xplor Park is located in the Riviera Maya, just south of Playa del Carmen. Activities include 14 zip lines, amphibious vehicles, and underground rivers featuring amazing stalactites and stalagmites created millions of years ago.
